SRINAGAR : A shopkeeper was shot dead after unknown gunmen opened fire at him at Mattan area of south Kashmir's Anantnag district on Tuesday evening.

A police official says, some unknown gunmen opened fire upon a shopkeeper Ghulam Rasool Ganie at his shop at Mattan Chowk.

In the incident, Ganie, a former PDP sarpanch received bullet wounds and was immediately shifted to Mattan hospital where doctors declared him brought dead on arrival, he said.

Soon after the attack, army, police and CRPF have launched the searches to nab the assailants, he said.
