GANDERBAL: A government school in Ganderbal district was locked by the locals over its poor performance in the recently declared 8th and 9th class examinations.

Residents in Shallabugh area on Thursday locked the government girl’s high school after the poor and dismal performance shown by the students of the school.

They said that the school has shown a below par performance over last couple of years and the education department has turned a blind eye to the issue and failed to take any steps to redress the issue.

“It is unfortunate that among 32 students in class 8th not a single student has qualified all the subjects,” locals said, adding that the 9th class result is about 20% that shows how poor the performance of the school is.

A resident Bilal Ahmed Khanday told Greater Kashmir that locals have decided to lock the school and wont allow it to function unless the deputy commissioner Ganderbal and education department officials take note of this issue.

Chief education officer Ganderbal Muhammad Afzal Sheikh didn’t respond to repeated phone calls by this correspondent.
Deputy commissioner Ganderbal Dr Piyush Sighla said that the issue has come to his notice and he has ordered the chief education officer Ganderbal to conduct an inquiry.

The DC further said that only the teachers can’t be blamed, adding that the CEO has been asked to have meeting with parents on regular intervals so that they can share their views.
