NEW DELHI: MoS Jitendra Singh has said that the government has no problem in giving the Kathua gang-rape and murder case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) if the PDP-led Jammu and Kashmir government refers. He added that another way for a CBI inquiry is through court.

“We have no problem in giving the matter to CBI. If the state government gives us reference today, we will hand over the case to CBI today itself. The other way is through courts, as per my knowledge a petition is pending there,” he told reporters.

The comment comes a day after the Supreme Court refused to give the case to the premier investigative agency. A bench headed by Chief Justice Dipak Mishra said since there was no allegation in the matter, there was no reason for the court to enter into as to who should investigate the case.

The court said this after the defence counsel said the father of the victim was satisfied by the investigation conducted by the Crime Branch of the Jammu and Kashmir police.
