JAMMU: The Srinagar-Jammu highway, which was closed for traffic for the past three days, re-opened on Friday evening for light motor vehicles, officials said.

Inspector general of traffic police Alok Kumar told that traffic on the highway has been restored but only LMVs are being allowed towards Srinagar.

“Only LMVs can pass Maroog and widening is underway,” Kumar said.

He said they are hopeful that widening will be completed on Saturday morning.

“On Saturday, we will first clear stranded traffic and later vehicles will also ply from Jammu to Srinagar,” he said.
The IGP asked highway travelers to contact traffic control units on Saturday to know about the status of the road.
