  • Mayor observed that there is a vast array of State and the Central Government Schemes which have the specific objective of promoting women’s health, education and empowerment.

JAMMU: All segments of our population must come forth to launch a sustained campaign for strongly supporting various endeavours which seek to protect women against violence, gender bias and unequal treatment of any kind. This was observed by Mayor Chander Mohan Gupta while addressing women activists of party in a programme organized by BJP Mahila Morcha at Bawa Palace,Shakti Nagar Jammu on the occasion of International Women Day today.

Mayor observed that there is a vast array of State and the Central Government Schemes which have the specific objective of promoting women’s health, education and empowerment. Each of these schemes needs to be effectively implemented if the cause of women is to be promoted. Cautioning against the empowerment of women being confined only to individual success stories the he observed that it is important to ensure the balanced growth, empowerment and well-being of all women.

Mayor further said  that respect for women is not a new thing but it forms core of the Indian cultural legacy and it needs to be sustained and preserved.

Women’s Day also remembers the voices of many women that go unheard and who continue to be dominated from securing their rights and realizing their full potential. International Women’s Day honours the women who have paved the path towards our progress and struggled to take ‘womanhood’ to a level where it is now.

Unfortunately, at the same time, the day is a reminder of the discrimination and inequality that still continues to plague our society. This special day, dedicated to women around the world, is a celebration of the great success of women across all spheres of life as well as shaping the future, Mayor added.

The objective of Women’s Day is to express love and gratitude towards women’s’ contribution to our lives and society. It honours the power and struggles of women who have broken all barriers and reached the pinnacle of success in every sphere of life. Today, women across the globe actively participate in politics, education, social work, corporate, sports, IT, research & development, innovation and diverse fields, and have left their footprints, he added. Many people think it is the ideal way to express their love and gratitude for women in life. Though, the true essence of the day lies in identifying the rights and power of women and giving them a stature that they deserve, Mayor maintained.

Prominent among those present on the occasion include former Minister Sat Sharma, Ayodhya Gupta, Veena Gupta, Kamla Gupta beside others.
