RSS leader Chandrakant Sharma dies after militant attack

JAMMU: RSS leader Chandrakant Sharma succumbed to his injuries at GMC hospital in Jammu on Tuesday. Chandrakant Sharma's personal security officer was shot dead in Kishtwar, police said.

Officials said the suspected militants barged into the hospital and snatched the PSO's weapon. They attempted to fire at the RSS leader. In the ensuing scuffle, the bodyguard was shot dead, leaving Chandrakant Sharma with fatal injuries.

Senior police officials had rushed to the scene, they said.

Reports said that gunmen opened fire on RSS leader identified as Chandrakant and his security personal in district hospital Kishtwar, resulting in on spot death of the security personnel and injuries to the leader.

A police official said gunmen opened fire on RSS leader Chandrakant and his security guard at the district hospital Kishtwar.

Pertinently, Chandrakant is an employee of the health department and was inside the hospital when the incident took place.

An official confirmed the death of his PSO and said critically injured Chandrakant is being treated at the hospital. Meanwhile, people have gathered in the town to protest against the killing.

"After being operated upon at the hospital, Chandrakant has been airlifted in a special chopper to GMC Jammu," DC said.

Later RSS leader Chandrakant Sharma who was attacked by terrorists inside Kishtwar District Hospital has succumbed to his injuries after he was flown to GMC in Jammu for treatment. 

On November 1 last year, suspected militants killed BJP state secretary Anil Parihar and his brother in an attack in Kishtwar.
