TRAL:12-hour long anti-militancy operation launched by the security forces in Tral forests of south Kashmir's Pulwama district has ended.

An official said that following inputs about presence of militants in Sofigund forest belt, the security forces during wee hours on Tuesday cordoned off the area and launched searches. The search operation turned into a brief encounter after militants hiding in the area opened fire on the security forces.

“After brief exchange of fire there was a sudden pause in the firing and the forces tightened the cordon and launched searches in the dense woods. The operation continued till midnight and ended without any casualty from either side. The militants apparently had managed to escape from the area,” he said.

Earlier, a large numbers of security forces were involved in the search operation in Sofigund. Contingents of Jammu & Kashmir police, army’s 42 Rashtriya Rifles and 180 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jointly carried out the operation.
