Poll staffer dies, several others injured in south Kashmir

  • A poll staff member died on Tuesday evening and a number of employees posted for election duty were injured after a bus carrying polling staff met with an accident in Kokernag area of Anantnag district.




SRINAGAR: A poll staff member died on Tuesday evening and a number of employees posted for election duty were injured after a bus carrying polling staff met with an accident in Kokernag area of Anantnag district.

Reports said that a bus bearing registration number JK0IF-4935 lost its control after a group of people allegedly hurled stones on the vehicle, following which the driver lost his control over the vehicle and fell into a gorge at Tangpawa, resulting in injuries to eight people.

The injured men were soon rushed to district hospital Anantnag, where doctors declared one of the injured men who had sustained serious injuries, dead. 

The deceased man has been identified as Hilal Ahmad Khan of Pulwama. Reports added that the other injured men are being treated at the hospital.

Earlier an official source said that people hurled stones on the bus carrying polling staff at Zalangam Kokernag while de-induction, resulting in injuries to eight poll staff members. He also added that two of them  are reportedly seriously injured.
