The owners of newly introduced electronic auto-rickshaws here on Tuesday staged a protest against the alleged thrashing of a driver by a group of transporters
The e-rickshaws were introduced in Srinagar in April, bringing a lot of relief to daily commuters.
A group of drivers assembled outside the Regional Transport Office in Srinagar and complained that auto and mini bus drivers were harassing them daily on one pretext or the other.
“Today this group thrashed a driver at Jehangir Chowk. They tell us that we can operate only in the city limits while we have all the documents to operate all over the city,” said a protesting driver.
“We charge very low fare while auto-rickshaw drivers charge much more to. That is the reason they are angry with us”
The protesting drivers later met the RTO and apprised them about the daily harassment.
